Joshua Lawrence Joins HK Olimpija Ljubljana

HK Olimpija Ljubljana has strengthened its roster with the signing of 24-year-old Canadian forward Joshua Lawrence.

Lawrence is known as a fast and highly skilled player who can play both at center and right wing. He first showcased his potential in the QMJHL, where he played for the Saint John Sea Dogs. In 2022, he helped the team capture the prestigious Memorial Cup championship. During the regular season, he recorded 101 points in 68 games. The following season, he continued his strong form and finished as the QMJHL playoff assists leader.

After completing his junior career, Lawrence moved to Europe, where he played in Switzerland’s SL. During the 2024/25 season, he joined the Lahti Pelicans and made his debut in Finland’s top professional league, Liiga. Last season, he competed in Slovakia’s top-tier Tipos Extraliga, winning the national championship with HK Nitra.

“We spent quite some time looking for a player who matched the profile we were after. We wanted a right-shot forward who could make an offensive impact while also being responsible in the defensive zone. In Josh, we found exactly what we were looking for, and we’re delighted to welcome him to our team. He is an excellent skater with outstanding speed, and I believe our style of play will suit him very well. He is a young, motivated athlete with significant potential to continue developing over the coming years. He is also capable of producing exciting plays, and I’m confident he will quickly become a fan favourite,” said HK Olimpija Ljubljana General Manager Anže Ulčar following the signing of Lawrence.
