Jan Urbas and Žiga Jeglič are new signings for the Dragons in their push for the top of the ICE League
Hockey Club Olimpija Ljubljana has signed Jan Urbas and Žiga Jeglič, long-time pillars of the Slovenian national team and, until recently, key players for Fischtown Pinguins.
Jan and Žiga are synonymous with hockey IQ and efficiency. In Bremerhaven, they formed one of the most productive forward duos in the German DEL, widely regarded as one of the strongest leagues in Europe.
They bring invaluable experience, proven leadership, and a winning mentality to the Dragons — qualities that will serve as both a standard and inspiration for the entire team.
Signing Urbas and Jeglič is part of Olimpija Ljubljana’s vision and ambition to take a decisive step toward the top of the international ICE League.
Jan Urbas, a product of Olimpija, captained Slovenia at two Olympic Games and played a key role in the national team’s promotion to the elite division of world hockey. He has competed in Sweden, the EBEL (predecessor of the ICE League), and spent ten seasons in the DEL.
For the past nine years, he represented Fischtown Pinguins, serving as team captain for the last four. Known for his physical presence and powerful shot, he was a constant threat to opposing goaltenders in Germany.
In the DEL, Urbas recorded 438 appearances and an impressive 387 points. In the 2024/25 season, he was the league’s top scorer with 52 points, and this season he led the regular season of the Champions Hockey League (CHL) in goals with six.
Žiga Jeglič began his hockey journey in Bled and went on to play in some of Europe’s top leagues. Over the course of his career, he has competed in the EBEL, Sweden’s Allsvenskan, Finland’s Liiga, and spent five seasons in the KHL.
In the 2013/14 season, he won the DEL championship with Ingolstadt, recording an outstanding 15 points in the playoffs. Over the past six seasons with Fischtown Pinguins, he maintained consistent production, averaging 0.88 points per game.
Jeglič is widely regarded as one of the most creative forwards in Slovenian hockey. He was an indispensable member of the national team and scored Slovenia’s historic first Olympic goal in Sochi, against Russia.
The arrival of Jan Urbas and Žiga Jeglič in Ljubljana is not only a major sporting boost — it is also a strategic move. Olimpija Ljubljana continues to build a strong Slovenian core based on top quality, character, and national pride.
The message is clear: with a strong and recognizable Slovenian identity connecting the team, the fans, and the wider hockey community, the club is aiming for the top of the ICE League.
