Jan Drozg joins the Dragons
Hockey Club Olimpija Ljubljana announces the arrival of Jan Drozg, one of the most recognizable Slovenian forwards, who represents an important reinforcement for our team.
Jan Drozg, a Slovenian national team player with extensive international experience, began his hockey career in Maribor before moving to Sweden at the age of sixteen, where he continued his development in a highly competitive international environment. His talent was recognized in 2017 by the Pittsburgh Penguins, who selected him in the NHL Draft. In the following seasons, he successfully played for their AHL affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, where he solidified his status as one of the best young Slovenian players of his generation.
The Slovenian forward has already worn the Olimpija jersey in the 2020/21 season, when he impressed in the Alps Hockey League with seven goals and ten assists in ten games. In 2023, he moved from the United States to the KHL, the top Russian hockey league, where he played two seasons for Amur Khabarovsk, and last season represented Kunlun Red Star.
Anže Ulčar, General Manager of HK Olimpija Ljubljana:
“We are pleased that we have managed to reach an agreement with such a high-quality player as Jan. With him, we have strengthened our offensive potential and versatility, and gained an excellent skater. Additionally, he is a right-shot forward, a profile we currently lack. We believe the team is now complete at all positions and that we are optimally prepared for the second half of the season.”
