Goaltender Dustin Tokarski joins the dragons

Hockey Club Olimpija Ljubljana has strengthened its goaltending position ahead of the ICE League playoffs. Due to an injury to starting goaltender Lukaš Horak, the team has been joined by experienced Canadian goaltender Dustin Tokarski.

Dustin Tokarski has an extensive career behind him in the strongest North American leagues. In 2008, after winning the IIHF World Junior Championship with the Canadian national team, he was selected in the 5th round of the NHL Entry Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning. He developed in the AHL with the Norfolk Admirals and made his debut in the world’s top hockey league during the 2011/12 season. He spent most of his career in the AHL, while playing 86 NHL games for the following teams: Tampa Bay Lightning, Montreal Canadiens, Anaheim Ducks, Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Carolina Hurricanes. This season, he played for Löwen Frankfurt, a club competing in Germany’s top-tier DEL league.

Anže Ulčar, Managing Director of HKO, said:
“After a strong regular season, we don’t want to leave anything to chance. An injury to the starting goaltender is, of course, a major blow, which is why we looked for a goalie with experience playing at the highest levels and in important, knockout games. Dustin undoubtedly fits that profile.”

Dustin Tokarski will join Olimpija Ljubljana in the coming days and, with his experience, will be an important addition during this crucial part of the season.
