The pre-holiday weekend meant a double showdown with the geographically most distant team of this year's competition for the girls who are competing under the auspices of HK SŽ Olimpija in the European Women's Hockey League. The hockey players of the Danish team Hvidovre IS Selects needed a whole day to travel to Zalog, so when they visited Slovenia, they played both scheduled matches, home and away.
Saturday turnun we will remember after both teams had misconceptions about each other. While the guests in the bets with their professional staff speculated about the difference of ten goals in their favor, the home girls were most likely expecting another tough opponent, which they have been facing for the whole of this season. This can probably be attributed to the inconsistency of the protégés Acija Ferjanica in the first part of the match, which the guests punished with four goals in the net of Olympia. Next, the Dragons apparently found a miracle formula with which they not only stopped the opponents in front of their goal, but were also successful in what caused them a lot of headaches this season - to end the actions in front of the opponents' goal with a puck in the net. Olympia was thus a second and third third better opponent, but the gap from the first part was too big to end the whole match in their favor.
In a similar style, the home girls continued the first third of Sunday’s showdown and ended it with a lead for the first time this season. Unfortunately, in the second and third part, they ran out of strength to continue in the same style, as the professional staff in the return match, due to injuries and other absences, compared to Saturday's match, was almost without a single attack. In such a reduced line-up, the girls mainly defended the pressure of the hockey players from the north until the last whistle of the referee, while there were no more opportunities for a new goal on the home account.
These were the last matches for the girls this year, but the rest will not last long. Some of them will wear competitive jerseys on the first Saturday of the new year, when they will be from Maribor Foxes hosted by the Ljubljana dragons.
