He acquired his first hockey knowledge in his native Kazan (former Soviet Union), where he became actively involved in hockey at the age of six. As a player, he first spent his professional hockey career in his hometown of Kazan, where he also played in the first league of the then Soviet Union. In 6 he moved to Slovenia, where he first played for Jesenice and then for Olimpija.

Among his major successes is the title of world champion in the U-20 category with the national team of the Soviet Union in 1980. As a player and coach, he was the national champion of Slovenia seven times.

He has a university degree with the title of professor of physical education and the 2nd level of the title "Ice Hockey Coach". Since 2013, he has been the selected provider of the sports program in the City of Ljubljana's IPS program.
