The first match of this year was a derby, this time in Jesenice. The match was the last in the regular season of the state championship and no longer decided anything. Olympia has already secured first place. This time in Jesenice, after the penalty shots, the locals were looking forward to the victory, after the regular part of the game it was 1: 1.

The derby, which once again took place without spectators, was relatively unexciting. The game was pretty much equal, the chances were on both sides. The Ironmen took the lead in the first third. An equalizing goal by the Dragons followed in the second third. After a nice pass Miha Zajc he hit Aleš Mušič. In the last third, the result did not change and we watched first the extra time and then the penalty shots for the second time in the season in the derbies. Once again, there was more luck in the implementation on the part of the Jeseničani.

»The derby itself has to have an extremely strong charge, and we had one percent of it. The Jesenice team deserved the victory because they had a charge, because they won duels and fought. We, on the other hand, watched and were in the theater instead of playing hockey. Names don’t play hockey. You have to do your best on the ice every change, you have to work for the success of the team. I think we need to look in the mirror. If the derby isn’t a big enough motivation and charge to fight and beat Jesenice, I really don’t know where we are. We need to have the pride and dignity to fight, even if the match doesn’t decide anything. Not relevant. It is important to go off the ice with our heads held high and do our best, "Said the coach after the match Gregor Polončič.

In the quarterfinals of the national championship, our boys will face Bled. The first match will be on January 10th.
